Applying to Southampton University

We encourage all students to disclose information about their disability on their application forms.  This is so that the University of Southampton can offer the best service to students as early on in the application process as possible.

Once you have submitted your application the school that you are applying to will decide whether they are interested in your application or not. If they are and if you have indicated any type of disability, sensory impairment of chronic health condition on your application it will be passed to the Disability Advice and Support Team so that we can look at the type of support you might require whilst studying.  You may then be contacted by us and encouraged to visit the University as a prospective student.

The prospective visit will usually be scheduled to coincide with the date of your academic interview or visit day, it involves you meeting with a member of the Disabilty Advice and Support Team for a general discussion about your possible support needs.  The types of things we might talk about are:

  • Additional Resources which may be available to you whilst studying
  • The Disabled Students Allowances and other funding opportunities
  • Information that might be useful to your teaching staff
  • Review the campuses and facilities to ensure that they are suitable for your needs

We will also look at some of the facilities on campus and, if you request it beforehand, we can go and look at some of the student halls of residence.

If you require any additional requirements/support at your prospective visit please click on the link and read the information about organising the correct support
