Filippo Maria Fazi

Filippo Maria Fazi graduated in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Brescia (Italy) in 2005, with a master thesis on room acoustics. He obtained his PhD in acoustics from the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research (ISVR) of the University of Southampton, UK, in 2010, with a thesis on sound field reproduction. He was appointed Lecturer at the ISVR in 2010. In the same year, he was awarded a fellowship by the Royal Academy of Engineering and by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council.

His research interests include Acoustics, Audio technologies, Electroacoustics and Digital Signal Processing, with special focus on acoustical inverse problems, multi-channel systems (including Ambisonics and Wave Field Synthesis), virtual acoustics, microphone arrays and room acoustics. He has also experience in teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate level and is currently supervising a number of doctoral students.

Dr Fazi has been serving as principal investigator or co-investigator in a number of national and international projects, totalling more than £1M in research grants and contracts. Most of these research projects were carried out in collaboration with a variety of industrial and academic partners and have led to the production of joint scientific publications and patents. His research experiences include nine months of research activity at the University of California, San Diego and five month at the Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique/Musique (IRCAM, Paris).

He has been awarded the ANC prize for best paper by a young person by the Institute of Acoustics in 2008 and the Sacerdote prize for best doctoral thesis by the Associazione Italiana di Acustica in 2010. He is a member of the Institute of Acoustics and of the Audio Engineering Society.

Directive Warning Sounds for Electric Vehicles

The generation of independent listening zones in a car cabin would allow each occupant to listen to a different audio programme without the constraints of headphones.
