Professor Terry Langdon establishes new links with a leading Chinese university

Published: 31 July 2014

Terry Langdon, Professor of Materials Science at the University of Southampton, has been appointed a guest professor at Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT).

During his time at the establishment in China earlier in 2014, he gave academics and senior undergraduates insights into his research on the processing and properties of ultrafine-grained metals and discussed the subject later with the students. He also visited Northeastern University and at the Chinese Academy of Sciences Institute of Materials Research in Shenyang.
Terry is an active researcher and a leading international figure in materials science and is listed in Thomson Reuters World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds review of 2014, which employs Web of Science and InCites data.
“Students at HIT were interested to hear about opportunities to study Engineering at Southampton and I believe my visit may encourage potential PhD students to apply for places with us,” he says. “It may also lead to joint collaborations between researchers in Harbin and Southampton.”
Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) was founded in 1920 and has developed into a large nationally-renowned multidisciplinary university with science, engineering and research at its core and more than 42,000 students. In 1999, HIT was listed as one of the top nine key universities in China.
