Centre for Environmental Sciences summer photography competition winners

Published: 5 November 2014

Congratulations to the winners of the 2014 Centre for Environmental Sciences (CES) summer photography competition.

There were over 70 entries to the competition, across three categories: Earth, Air and Water. The photographs were diverse, capturing local countryside to the Serengeti, and landscapes to urban action; showcasing the talents from CES.

The winners were:

Earth: William Greenwood, ‘Glenfinnan Serenity’

The judges particularly liked the contrast of the light in this well composed landscape.

Air: Steph Tudgey, ‘Flight of the Bumblebee’

The judges noted how the bumblebee in focus draws in your eye, and the story it tells with the number of flowers the bee still has to fly to.

Water: Nutcha Sritong, ‘Source of Life’

The judges enjoyed Nutcha’s use of perspective, showing the number of nets, as well as the silhouettes and reflections on the water.

The shortlist was drawn up by Tim Heffernon, president of the SU Photographic Society, and photographer, Andrew Fleming, with the final winners judged by CES’s Kate Parks and Ian Williams. The winners were each awarded a £50 book voucher. The successful competition will run again next summer for students and staff who want to get involved.
