Malaysia Campus students start their next chapter in Southampton

Published: 13 October 2015

The University has been welcoming the latest students from our University of Southampton Malaysia Campus (USMC) for the start of the new academic year.

Those progressing from Malaysia to Southampton this autumn include third and fourth year students enrolled on the University’s MEng in Mechanical Engineering and, for the first time, third year students enrolled on the MEng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. We also welcome our first students in Malaysia this year to study for an MEng in Aeronautics and Astronautics. All of these degrees are part of our Integrated International Engineering Education (IIEE) programme which allows students to spend two years studying in Malaysia followed by two years studying in the UK.

Since arriving to the UK and Southampton, students have been familiarising themselves with their new surroundings and teaching laboratories, and have had the opportunity to attend welcome events such as a workshop on ‘Making sense of British Culture ’.

Professor John McBride, Chief Executive Officer at USMC, said: “It has been a pleasure getting to know the students during their time in Malaysia and we wish them all the best as they continue their studies in the UK.”

Our Malaysia Campus is situated within the EduCity@Iskander development in a regional city called Nusajaya, which is 3.5 hours’ drive south of Kuala Lumpur, and within 60 minutes of Singapore Changi International Airport. It is a pioneering concept of best-in-class education partners, including globally recognised universities, all sharing international-standard sporting and recreational facilities.
