I am a postgraduate research student in underwater acoustics and ultrasonics. My research project consists of acoustic modelling of oceanic bubble clouds with applications to meteorology and sonar.

My greatest interest is in inspiring people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to do what makes them the happiest. Science makes me happy; it's what wakes me up in the morning and that's why I stick at it and that's why I like to share my passion for it.

I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of Southampton in 2014 with a First Class Honours in MEng Acoustical Engineering. During my degree I completed a two-month placement with Arup in London, producing auralisations to discuss acoustics environments within offices, a year-long placement in Australia with AECOM and SLR Consulting, working on building and environmental acoustics and a two-month placement at the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR), working on acoustic and thermal characterisation of liver, kidney and muscle tissue with the aim to assist HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) treatment planning.

My experiences have given me a broad perspective on the applications of acoustics and my undergraduate projects and placement at the ICR convinced me that I was best suited to a research-based career.

I am also very passionate about communication and have therefore become a highly active member of the university’s public engagement network. I have been a STEM Ambassador since 2010 and also assisted in the university’s Outreach Roadshow. I also co-ordinate a team that has set up a comedy club for researchers, called Bright Club and also performed in their first show in July 2015. Further, I help facilitate in a science café called The Science Room. I continuously visit schools and offer tours of the ISVR, along with presenting on acoustics to a range of audiences to encourage them to join the ISVR or to consider just how much acoustics is involved in their everyday lives.

In my spare time, I am a road cyclist and tennis player, with experience as a junior tennis coach. I also enjoy learning languages, speaking Spanish (Stage 5), French (Stage 2) and German (Stage 1). This interest in languages stems from a passion to travel and experience foreign cultures and lifestyles.
