Project Overview

This project was one of the first to apply probabilistic methods to the design and performance of orthopaedic implants. Focussing on simplified FEA models of total hip replacement, a number of factors were varied, to build multi-dimensional response surfaces, showing how implant performance varied as these factors were changed, and demonstrating that probabilistic and stochastic methods could indeed be used to evaluate the performance envelope of medical devices.
