Ranka Primorac

Primary position:
Lecturer

I have degrees from the universities of Zagreb, Zimbabwe and Nottingham Trent. I am an Associate of the Department of African Languages and Cultures, SOAS, and of the Centre of African Studies, Cambridge, as well as an editorial board member of The Journal of Commonwealth Literature and Journal of Southern African Studies. In 2008, I became the inaugural Vice Chair of the Postcolonial Studies Association. In 2009, I organised a conference entitled Dialogues across Boundaries: Debating Local Cosmopolitanisms at the University of Southampton.

Research Interests

African literatures and cultures (with emphasis on Southern Africa), narrative constructions of space-time, the social functioning of literary fictions, city cultures and texts, new cosmopolitanisms.

Research projects

I am in the second year of a British Academy-funded research project on literature and cosmopolitanism in contemporary Zambia.
