Dr Ranka Primorac is a Lecturer in English at the University of Southampton.

I have degrees from the universities of Zagreb, Zimbabwe and Nottingham Trent. I sit on the Editorial Board of The Journal of Commonwealth Literature, the Advisory Board of Journal of Southern African Studies and the Council of the African Studies Association of the UK. Together with Stephanie Newell, I co-edit Boydell and Brewer’s African Articulations book series.

Research interests

African literatures and cultures (with emphasis on Southern Africa), the world’s literary systems, narrative constructions of space-time, the social functioning of literary fictions, city cultures and texts, new cosmopolitanisms.

Research projects

I am working on a book to do with literature and local cosmopolitanisms in Southern Africa.

I convene three undergraduate modules: Narrative and Culture (first year), Images of Africa in Literature and Culture (second year) and Love and Death in Africa's Cities (third year). I contribute to the teaching of the undergraduate module Writing Place and the MA modules War and Conflict in Literature and Film and Literature and Race. I also supervise MA and doctoral students.
