Evan Placey's first ever radio play 'Mother of Him' will be broadcast this Saturday on Radio 3 at 9.45pm (and on Listen Again for the following week). It stars David Harewood (Homeland) and Madeleine Potter (The White Countess) and is adapated from his stage play of the same name.

Tuesday October 15th saw the English department's inaugural F.T. Prince Memorial Lecture, given by Sir Christopher Ricks. These lectures will be given annually to celebrate the work of staff and students in the department and the intellectual legacy of F.T. Prince, the poet and scholar who helped found it back in 1946.

Professor Claire Jowitt has been awarded £33,000 from the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and £18,000 from the Modern Humanities Research Association (MHRA) for the next stage of her work, with Professor Daniel Carey of the National University of Ireland, Galway, to prepare a 14 volume scholarly edition of some of the world’s earliest travel writing.
