The University of Southampton's ESRC DTC (Doctoral Training Centre) is one of just 21 centres to receive accreditation by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), the national body funding research and training in social and economic issues.
The DTC will offer a minimum of 18 new postgraduate studentships every year for a six year period, which commenced in October 2011.
The ESRC-DTC at the University of Southampton offers supervisory expertise across the full breadth of the human and social science disciplines and our thriving community of postgraduate students is supported by a first class research training infrastructure.
The University currently directs the ESRC Census Programme and hosts ESRC centres of research excellence, including the National Centre for Research Methods (NCRM), the Centre for Population Change (CPC) and the Administrative Data Research Centre for England (ADRC-E). Coupled with the University's reputation for excellence in research methods and advanced methodological techniques, the ESRC-DTC offers a unique academic environment for doctoral training within the social sciences.
A masters is not a prerequisite for studying at the Southampton DTC. A range of training programmes are available based on an assessment of the applicant’s prior learning and training needs. All studentships can be offered on a full or part time basis.
