Event details

Coinciding with the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War, this Summer School will introduction students to a range of issues and debates concerning the wider context of that conflict.

This Summer School will give students a taster of studying History and Humanities subjects at a Russell Group University, and will feature lectures and workshops by academics from the Faculty of Humanities. There will also be a panel on ‘University Life and Admissions'. The academic sessions will cover a range of historical and geographical topics, but because 2014 is the centenary of the First World War's outbreak, this Summer School will have a special focus on that conflict. The sessions will go beyond an examination of the Western Front to cover a range of issues concerning the European empires' involvement in the Great War.

The Summer School will be held over two days (25 and 26 June): you are welcome to attend on either or indeed both days. The event is aimed at Year 12 students, but this is open for discussion if you have other students who may be interested. There is no charge for this programme, but attendees should bring a packed lunch. We also have a limited number of bursaries available to help with transportation costs.
