An Adult Nursing student from Health Sciences has received a national award from charity Cavell Nurses’ Trust and travel placement funding of £1,500 allowing her to experience dementia care in Australia.

The Outstanding Student Nurse Award, sponsored by the RCN Foundation, was presented at the Cavell Nurses’ Trust Awards on 22 June to Adult Nursing student, Sarah Tipping.

Sarah was recognised for demonstrating the qualities of good nursing care and her work to support people with dementia, including their families and carers during the early stages of her nursing career.

Cavell Nurses’ Trust helps nurses, midwives and healthcare assistants suffering financial or personal hardship, often because of illness, domestic abuse, disability, working poverty and older age.

Sarah commented “I’m really thrilled to have won the Outstanding Student Nurse Award. I’m passionate about nursing and enjoying every minute of my training. I can’t wait to be fully qualified and making a difference to the lives of my patients.”

The ceremony took place in front of a packed audience of nurses, midwives and healthcare leaders at the De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in Central London.

Anne Baileff, Associate Dean Education and Student Experience, expressed her delight: “We are so proud of Sarah for winning this award. It’s a wonderful achievement and a testament to Sarah’s commitment and dedication. It is especially pleasing that this success follows on from fellow-winner and Mental Health Nursing student Cara Sturgess last year.”

Cavell Nurses’ Trust Chairman Simon Knighton said: “The Cavell Nurses’ Trust Awards helps us be here for nurses and midwives, either by supporting them when they face hardship or by celebrating the amazing work that they do every day.”
