MRes Clinical Research
Level: Masters
Duration: one year full time, two years to five years part time
Target audience: Healthcare practitioners from a variety of backgrounds, including nurses, midwives, allied healthcare professions and doctors, or non-clinicians working in clinical research environments.
Content
The programme provides a robust clinical research career training opportunity for those who aspire to clinical academic careers and leadership roles in healthcare practice, research and education. It will provide, in a research-led environment, the opportunity to acquire knowledge and skills relevant to carrying out clinical research.
The core modules are as follows:
- Research skills in health and social care 1 (20 credits)
- Research skills in health and social care 2 (20 credits)
- Clinical research in practice (20 credits)
- Applied research methods: quantitative (20 credits)
- Applied research methods: qualitative (20 credits)
- Open module (with placement within a research group) (20 credits)
- Research dissertation (60 credits)
Course structure
Postgraduate certificate – three taught modules
Postgraduate diploma – six taught modules
MClinRes – six taught modules plus dissertation
Entry requirements
A first degree (class 2.2 or higher) or equivalent, in a relevant subject, from an approved institution of higher education. Candidates without a good first degree may be admitted to the programme but will be expected to provide evidence of suitable professional experience and supportive qualifications. In addition to the above requirements, the candidate would normally have a health professional qualification leading to current registration with the appropriate professional body and/or relevant clinical/professional experience.
