Learning essential skills is an important part of training
Health Sciences offer you much more than just a degree. We are training the next generation of professionals in nursing, midwifery, health and social care, physiotherapy, podiatry and occupational therapy in a supportive and friendly environment.
Our impressive research portfolio means you will learn from academics who are directly involved in influencing the quality of healthcare. You will learn alongside students from many other disciplines in the health sciences to gain a thorough knowledge of healthcare.
Employers appreciate Southampton graduates, in 2009, 93 per cent of our graduates found work or went into further study. Many of our former students are now in senior positions in the NHS and other healthcare organisations.
New and improved Nursing Degrees for 2012
Here at Southampton our nursing degrees were the first in the country to adopt the new nursing and midwifery council standards. Our new nursing degree courses are leading the way in future training and were skilfully designed to prepare nurses to lead discovery through research based training, challenge practise and create change through innovation.
This nursing degree course curriculum was highly commended by the NMC on several counts particularly the ‘Southampton values-based model' in which intelligent compassion and sensitive care are at the heart of the programmes. Nursing degree course students will be expected to focus on their attitudes, beliefs, values and professionalism, from the outset, to ensure that patients/clients receive the high quality care they need.
Key characteristics of the programme include the focus on research based learning, the development of graduate attributes, grading of practice, the joined-up inter-professional approach to shared learning, between nurses, midwives and their physiotherapy, occupational therapy and podiatry colleagues and, in the masters programmes, the use of guided discovery learning. A particularly exciting development has been the introduction of a new dual fields programme allowing students to register in two fields of nursing.
Do you already hold a degree?
