In memory of Philip S Haffenden
Philip S. Haffenden, who taught in the University from 1963 to 1985, latterly as reader in American history, has died at the age of 88. His most important publication was New England in the English Nation 1689-1713 (OUP, 1974).
His Special Subject on the American War of Independence was always popular. He retired early to Eastbourne; his centenary History of Willingdon Golf Club was published in 1997. The funeral will take place at Eastbourne Crematorium on Friday 4 July at 2.30 p.m.
