The Agincourt Scholarship - postgraduate applications now open

Published: 5 February 2015

Applications are invited for a three-year PhD studentship in the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Southampton, funded by The Gosling Foundation in commemoration of the 600th anniversary of the battle of Agincourt (25 October 1415).

The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Professor Anne Curry, Professor of Medieval History, well known for her work on the battle and on late medieval English armies. There will also be opportunities for links with, and professional development through, the Royal Armouries.

Applicants should submit a proposal for historical or interdisciplinary research linked to the battle and its context. They should demonstrate that they have the skills (e.g. in languages, palaeography etc.) necessary to carry out the research they are proposing. The Faculty will provide additional training as required.

The value of the scholarship is a total of £20,000 per annum to cover fees and stipend. Home/EU and international applicants are welcome and would be subject to the relevant annual PhD fee level based on their status.

For informal discussion please email Prof Curry on a.e.curry@soton.ac.uk

Closing date: Friday 13 March 2015

Applicants need to complete the online University of Southampton PGR application form and should indicate in the funding section of the form, and their research proposal, that they wish to be considered for the Agincourt scholarship. Shortlisted candidates will be required to send written work and also be interviewed, by Skype or conference call if necessary. It is anticipated that interviews will take place in mid to late April..
