Medicine is not available through the Access to Southampton scheme as Medicine run their own widening access programme called BM6.

Is the subject I want to study available through the scheme?

The majority of subject we offer at Southampton are available through A2S. Unfortunately at this time Ecology, Environmental Science, Medicine, Natural Sciences, Physiotherapy and programmes based at Winchester School of Art do not participate in the programme.

I wish to study a joint honours programme but the exact course I'm looking for is not listed on the application form, what should I do?

Many of the joint honours subjects we offer at the University are available through A2S, from the subjects listed above. Please contact us for advice regarding how to apply for these programmes.

I am attending another Summer School when the A2S Summer School takes place. Can I still participate in the scheme?

Attendance at both days of the A2S Summer School is a compulsory part of the scheme, as it allows our academic staff to assess your ability and potential, as well as to set out the expectations of the academic assignment. Unfortunately, if you cannot attend you will not be able to participate in the scheme.

I am on holiday whilst the assignment is due to be completed. Can I submit a current piece of A-Level work instead or have an extension to the deadline?

All applicants must complete the A2S academic assessment as set by the academic tutors at the Summer School. For most subjects there are a limited number of places available through the scheme, so often academic staff will have to select those with the best work to go on to the next stage of the scheme and become eligible for the additional admissions consideration. For that reason, the academics need to consider each students performance based on the task set, so that the decision made is based on a 'level playing field' for all applicants. Unfortunately, we are not able to accept late assignments or give extensions to the deadline.

I live locally to the University, do I have to stay overnight at the Summer School?

We aim for all participants at the Summer Schools to stay overnight in our halls of residence, in order for them to get the most from the experience of attending a Summer School.

Is there any cost to attend the Summer School?

No, the Summer School is free to attend – we provide accommodation and meals during your stay. You will need to pay for your travel to and from the Summer School, however we can reimburse this by way of cheque 3-4 weeks after the event, but you must provide your original receipts or tickets. Unfortunately, due to the numbers attending the Summer Schools and the associated administration, we are unable to pay for travel upfront for students attending.
