Being accepted to study at the prestigious Institute of Maritime Law in the University of Southampton was indeed a dream come true. It places me on the map of Women in Maritime.

Why did you choose to study at the University of Southampton?

The Institute of maritime Law at the University of Southampton has a reputation that precedes itself. It has been rated as one of the best in the world in Maritime Law. I wanted to study with the best.

What were your first impressions of the University of Southampton?

I got a U1A bus from the airport and some very kind students offered to help with my luggage despite the hassle and their busy schedules. The weather was, as expected, colder but very lovely. I however experienced a bit of a challenge with the navigation around the big Highfield Campus. (I am now a pro at navigation)

What do you enjoy the most about living in Southampton?

I especially love The Café. Their genius ‘7’ and ‘10’ meal deals offer me a fully balanced diet at an affordable student price. I also appreciate how green the University is. There is so much nature around, it feels like home.

What is your favourite spot on campus?

The Jubilee Sports Hall. I get world class gym facilities and trainers on my campus. I do not take that for granted.

What has been your proudest accomplishment while you were in Southampton?

Participating in the annual LLM challenge. I learnt more about cohesiveness and teamwork besides the Law in my interaction with students from other countries.

I also worked as a postgraduate ambassador during the Postgraduate open day. It was quite fulfilling to talk to prospective students that wanted to join The University of Southampton for their LLM in 2017.

Would you recommend the University of Southampton to students from your home country? If so, why?

Definitely. Since my first day here, I have interacted with very friendly staff and faculty team members. With regard to my LLM program, I’m taught by Professors who are gurus in their different fields of specialisation. The school is very efficient and systems actually work. The university of Southampton is truly a World Class University in a small town.

What will you do with your degree after you have finished your studies?

I have a dream of working with great women like Nancy Karigithu, Permanent Secretary of Transport, Kenya Maritime Authority, Kenya and Elizabeth Wakesho Marami, 1st woman Marine Pilot in East Africa. With my Masters Degree in Maritime Law, I am a step closer to making my dream a reality.

Is there anything else you would like to say?

Being accepted to study at the prestigious Institute of Maritime Law in the University of Southampton was indeed a dream come true. It places me on the map of Women in Maritime. I thank you.
