Jury service

The University regards serving on a jury as an important civic duty and will take all reasonable steps to try to accommodate your absence from the workplace. Any member of our staff summoned for jury service is eligible for paid special leave.

Routine options such as reorganising your work among colleagues, suspending the work or arranging for temporary agency cover will be explored to cover your absence.

This is the same if you are summoned to attend courts, tribunals or appeal hearings as witnesses.

Jury Service should be recorded as an "Other Absence" on MyView. You can find instructions for using MyView here.

Our guidance below provides further information about the University’s special leave policy.

Please note: There is no longer a need to submit a ‘loss of earnings’ form to Payroll. No loss of earnings should be claimed for any court service, as your pay will continue during these periods.
