The Faculty of Humanities is delighted to announce that it will host the Confucius Institute, an initiative promoting cultural exchange between the UK and China.

In 2017, after celebrating its 20th year, the Faculty of Humanities welcomes the University of Southampton's Confucius Institute (CI) to join the thriving research environment of Humanities at Southampton.

The CI was formally opened in October 2011 in collaboration with Chinese partners at Xiamen University China, with the aim of establishing and supporting the provision of opportunities to study and research all aspects of China, including language and culture, from primary school through to University level. The CI delivers courses in Chinese language and culture for the wider community and provide a range of services which are be of interest to students, researchers, and local entrepreneurs. We provide scholarships for students to go to China and learn Chinese, and we also provide a wide range of supports for researchers interested in disseminating their China-related research and projects.

The move reflects the Faculty's focus on internationalisation and cultural exchange, which was further highlighted in late 2016 with the formation of a new International Centre within the Faculty.
