Key concepts and genres in film are explored with our part time courses
The University of Southampton, consistently rated among the top places in the UK to study film by the Guardian University Guide, is now in its twelfth year collaborating with Harbour Lights Picturehouse in running popular and successful courses in film. This academic year, we are delighted to offer three courses for film enthusiasts. You don’t have to be a specialist to join – just someone with an interest in cinema, a desire to develop it and a readiness to join in discussion in an open-minded way. The format is now well established. The sessions run on consecutive Wednesdays with the films showing at 6.30pm (with a brief introduction) followed, after a 15 minute break, by an hour’s seminar. The autumn course will also include a Saturday study day at the University to deepen and broaden the study.
The University is also organising a Titanic Cultural Day, exploring the rich cultural history of the retelling of the ship’s story in literary and cinematic form. This will take place on Saturday 21 April at the Avenue Campus.
