Our popular annual SoNG meeting took place on 15th September, with over 130 attendees.

This year the meeting was organised by Prof Lindy Holden-Dye and Prof Vincent O’Connor and the theme was ‘The Brain and the Environment’.  It provided an opportunity to reflect and discuss how the nervous system and its study can impact and translate across so many levels.

Invited speakers from Cambridge and London took us on a journey of their latest work on genes, circuits, behaviours and the implications of knowledge of neuroscience on architecture; whilst senior and junior colleagues from Psychology, Medicine and Biological Sciences covered our local neuroscience research.

We heard about occupational therapy for patients with dementia, circadian rhythms and jetlag, virtual mazes and Dr Who, epigenetics and evolution, mathematical modelling, systemic inflammation and Alzheimer’s disease.

Congratulations to Prutha Patel who was awarded the Institute for Life Sciences poster prize.
