General information and guidelines
The following sections offer general information for students from India who are interested in studying at the University of Southampton. If you want more details about entry requirements you should contact the relevant Admissions Office within your chosen department.
- Undergraduate entry requirements
- Students with the following qualifications will be considered for direct entry to the University of Southampton's Bachelor's Degrees:
- 1. At least 70% in Class XII from Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the Council for Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) and Metro State Boards (Delhi, Maharashtra, Chennai, Kolkata and Karnataka);
- 2. High grades in UK A levels;
- 3. Between 28 and 38 points in the International Baccalaureate (IB).
- Postgraduate entry requirements
- Students with the following Indian qualifications will be considered for direct entry to the University of Southampton's postgraduate programmes:
- 1. BA, BSc, BComm, LLB (when awarded by a Law College approved by the Indian Bar Council), BENg / BTech, MSc, MA, MComm, MTech, MEng, PhD from a recognised University or equivalent professional qualification with an overall qualification of at least 60%. However, the minimum overall percentage may vary depending on the departments. You will need to provide a subject credit certificate (transcript) plus graduation certificate;
- 2. Students interested in studying a PhD at the University of Southampton need good grades in ther Bachelor's and Master's programmes awarded by a recognised Indian university as well as a strong research proposal.
- English language entry requirements
- Indian students who have achieved at least 70% in English at Class XII from CBSE or CISCE do not need to take any additional English language test for entry at the University of Southampton.

- Scholarships for students from India
- LLM International Scholarship: £6750 for Indian students interesting in studying LLM programme at the University of Southampton.
- WSA Scholarship schemes: there are various scholarship schemes available for master students from India to apply.
