You are about to embark on a new journey and you need to be prepared for all that lies ahead. Therefore you should make sure that you have done everything you need to before leaving your country to come to the UK.

You should have read the University of Southampton's 'Information for International Students 2009-10' booklet and the British Council's 'Safety First' booklet.
Please also read the following leaflets to understand what food and plant products you are allowed to bring with you.
Make sure you have done everything on the pre-arrival checklist. This checklist can be found on page 25 of the University of Southampton's 'Information for International Students 2009-10' .
In addition to this make sure you have:
- registered with the meet and greet service (for international and EU students, excluding visiting/Socrates students)
- applied to attend the Welcome Programme (for all international and EU students)
- arranged accommodation during the Welcome Programme
- arranged University accommodation during your studies (if you are eligible) or private rented accommodation
- registered with the University (please note, enrolment for 2010-11 is not yet open. Please re-visit this link in August)
- returned your student ID Card form and an additional facilities form if applicable, along with 1 passport sized photo. If your course starts before 1st August 2010 please visit the ID Service website for more information.
- paid your accommodation deposit (if you are a postgraduate student)
- put in your hand luggage all the paperwork that the University has sent to you including your final offer letter, original copies of your transcripts, English language tests, passport (you will need to prove your identity - a list of valid ID documents is included in the ID card application pack ), travel/flight tickets, English pounds/travellers cheques, travel/personal insurance documents, evidence of your finances (bank statement, sponsor letter), Southampton accommodation information and details of all immunisations, medication and a full medical history for yourself and any family members accompanying you to the University.
