The Welcome Programme has been put together by the International Office, Students’ Union and Student Services. It has been designed to help you settle into the City of Southampton and University life, and make new friends. Therefore we would like to encourage all our new international and European students to take part in as many activities as possible. The Welcome Programme will take place on the 22nd and 23rd September 2011 with a number of additional activities available to those students arriving from the 19th September onwards. The Students Union will also be arranging activities over the weekend on the 24-25th September 2011. Our Welcome Programme Booklet will be available here to view in mid July, please re-visit the website then for more information.
During the Meet and Greet Service and the Welcome Programme you will be helped by current international and European students who will be able to share their experiences with you and will understand how you are feeling.
Once you have arrived and have settled into your accommodation, you need to go directly to the Student Services Centre to register your arrival and collect your welcome pack.
Identity 'check-in' events
The University must tell the UK Border Agency if students holding a visa to come to the University of Southampton, do not arrive. As a result we have to know who has arrived as soon as possible.
If you are an international student who has been required to obtain a visa in order to study in the UK please ensure you attend an identity 'check-in' event with Registry Services. These 'check-in' events will be held during the Welcome Programme in Building 58, Level 1 at the following times:
- Monday 19th September: 14:00 - 16:00
- Tuesday 20th September: 09:30 - 13:00 and 14:00 - 16:00
- Wednesday 21st September: 09:30 - 13:00 and 14:00 - 16:00
- Friday 23rd September: 09:30 - 12:30
You will need to bring the following ORIGINAL documents to the identity 'check-in' event:
- Your current, valid passport
- Your visa, leave stamps or immigration status document showing your permission to stay in the UK
- Your biometric identity card (if you have one)
- Your University student ID number (this will appear on your offer letter or on your University student ID card)
If your visa requires registration with the Police you will need to book an appointment at the Student Services Centre.
Once you have had your identity and documents checked, you will need to enrol online. Please note Tier 4 students will not be able to enrol until they have been 'checked-in'. There will be help available at the identity 'check-in' events to ensure you can complete this.
All students must enrol before they can officially join the University and this includes students in partner institutions. The University must tell the UK Border Agency if any students holding a Tier 4 visa to study at the University do not enrol before the end of the enrolment period.
