Request or Renewal for a Generic, Club or Society Account
This form is used for the setting up or renewal of Generic Computing Accounts. The application must be sponsored by a University School or Service, or the Students' Union for SU Clubs and Societies. The request must be authorised by either the Head of School, Service or Students Union (Note 1). An Email will be sent to them to confirm authorisation (if necessary please check with your authoriser before completing this form).
All Generic accounts require a Primary and Secondary contact, these contacts must be members of the University (Note 2).
The Primary contact will be the person who applies for and manages an account on a daily basis. The Secondary contact will receive Generic account, system generated emails to their personal email account, e.g. expiry warning emails.
This should ensure that account expiry warning emails are read by at least one person and any necessary action is taken to keep accounts operational if still required.

- Student Union Society accounts are renewable every 12 months
- Generic accounts are renewable every 3 years

Terms and Conditions
Access to iSolutions facilities is offered only under the following terms and conditions agreed to by the applicant.
i. I agree to abide by and be bound by the University Regulations for the use of computers, voice and data communications networks, and the Regulations for use of iSolutions.
ii. I agree to indemnify the University against any claims made by third parties arising out of my use of the University's computing and networking facilities.
iii. I agree that the University accepts no responsibility for the incorrect functioning of its equipment nor liability for any losses incurred by me as a result of my use of the University's computing and network facilities.
iv. I agree to advise the University within one calendar month of any change to my address for correspondence.
Notes
1. Authorisers:
- Generic Accounts: Head of School / Service, or the School / Service Manager.
- Student Union Accounts: Union President, Vice President, Clubs and Societies Officer, Senior SU Staff.
2. A Member of the University must be responsible for the Generic Account. Members of the University for these purposes are defined as:
Registered Students of the University.
Staff on the University personnel database.
3. It will normally take two working days to verify your details. Once completed, you will be informed of the Account name and the temporary password.
4. Due to the fact that a username can only be 8 characters long, it is sometimes desirable to have an alternative name for a Generic account. Therefore a mail alias can be set up to act as a pseudonym for your account. Conventions still apply in that only certain characters can be used. For example: account name= badmin@soton.ac.uk, alias=badminton@soton.ac.uk.
5. New account usernames are subject to availability; Mail Alias (Note 4): New mail aliases are subject to availability.
6. We will need to know the purpose of the account, as Generic accounts are only used for non person specific purposes.
