Generic accounts
Your personal account is for your use only and you should not allow anyone else to access facilities using your account nor should you give out your password to anyone. However, sometimes there is a need to set up accounts to be accessed and managed by more than one person. It is possible to set up a generic account for this purpose.
Such accounts can be used to allow email to be sent to a group email box rather than a personal email account. Groups can also use the account's filestore allocation to create web pages. Generic accounts are usually requested by Schools, Student Union or other University clubs and societies, who may wish to set up email accounts or web pages.
If you have a valid requirement for a Generic account you will need to fill in an application form. You will need to ensure that you have agreed the request with a valid authoriser, as we will need confirmation from them to process your request.
