Creating your account
When you subscribe initially you create a computing account that provides you with log-in access to many of the services and facilities provided by iSolutions ( iSolutions. to support the work of the University.
You can subscribe from any computer connected to the Internet or from any of our public workstations. You will be asked to provide your staff or student number, your surname (family name) and date of birth (day and month only). Later during this process you will be asked to select a password to use with our services.
We recommend you read the pages on password security before proceeding. Under no circumstances should you let anyone else subscribe on your behalf.
Accessing Subscribe
Via the world wide web ...
- Click on the Subscribe button found on the iSolutions website or type the URL http://www.subscribe.iss.soton.ac.uk into the location field of your browser and press ENTER.
From a public workstation

Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete to get the log-in screen. Log in using subscribe as the username. You do not need to enter a password. Click OK. This will take you to the Subscribe screen.
In the steps that follow, it is essential to type your personal details as they appear on your staff/student card or in the information in your introductory pack. If you mis-type, simply use the BACKSPACE key to correct the error. Most screens require you to press a Next button to proceed to the next screen.
- Type your student/staff number, surname and the day and month of your birth. The system should now recognise you. Problems with your personal details will result in an error message. This will give you the opportunity to check and correct your entry if necessary.
You will be asked to Accept the conditions displayed. If you click on the Decline button you will leave the Subscribe system. You can always change your mind and accept the conditions at any time in the future while you are still a member of the University. - You will be assigned a username.
If you are an undergraduate or taught postgraduate you are given a username based on your initials, a number and year of entry. If you are a member of staff or a research student you are given a default username based on your initials, but you have the opportunity to change this during the Subscribe process.
- Complete the answers to the security questions and answers (you may change the questions if you wish).
- You will be asked to type in a password, and then type it again to confirm it. This is a safeguard to ensure you did not make an error when typing the password.
- Tick the boxes about inclusion in the external on-line directory.
- Click on Next when you have completed this. If no mistakes are found, you will see a message stating that you have successfully subscribed.
- You may now either click Finish to leave Subscribe, or subscribe to further computing facilities. (New students who now have to enrol should click on the Enrol button to go to enrolment. Please note as a new student you will be unable to subscribe to further facilities until one working day after completing the Student Enrolment process.)
- It is essential that you remember your username and password - but, for security reasons you must not write your password down in any place where it will be identified with you.
Your account to become fully active within 30 minutes.
