Password advice

The ideal password should be easy to remember (if you forget it, you won't be able to log in until you get a new one) but difficult for others to guess. A random set of characters and numbers may be hard to guess, but is also hard to remember.

Passwords must be 8 - 14 characters long and include at least one letter and one number.  You should remember your password exactly as you entered it into Subscribe including your use of upper and lower case letters.  Make sure that the Caps Lock key is not turned on when you Subscribe initially or when you change your password in Subscribe.

The following techniques may help you choose a good password but please do not choose the examples given here:

  • Use words with letters missing (eg. 1psswrd)
  • Substitute letters with numbers (eg. passw0rd)
  • Use of punctuation marks & symbols can make passwords more difficult to "crack" by machines, but some symbols can't be used. Those you can use safely include: ( ) + - < = >
  • Base the password on the initial letters from the line of a song (eg 10gbhotw (10 green bottles hanging on the wall))
  • Base the password on word combinations (go2sleep)
  • Combine 2 or more of the techniques suggested above!
