Password changes on Apple Macs
Please note that this information is for users of the University’s Mac MDE build supplied by iSolutions, or systems bound to the soton domain.
For security reasons, the password for your University account needs to be changed every six months. However, when you change your University account password, you also need to change the keychain password on your Mac, as this will retain the old password until it is manually changed.
To change the keychain password, you need to run the ‘keychain access’ application that can be found by clicking on Applications, and then Utilities within ‘Finder’.
When you first run the Keychain Access application, you may need to unlock the login keychain. This is achieved by clicking on the padlock in the top left of the window, and then entering your password.
To change the keychain login password to match your new University user account password, hold down the ‘ctrl’ key and then click on ‘login’.
Then select ‘Change Password for Keychain “login”’ where you will be presented with the option to change the login keychain password.
Please ensure that the password matches your University password to ensure you do not encounter problems connecting to services.
