How to Add A Blackboard Course Announcement

Announcements are useful for communicating short items of news about your course. Examples could be an announcement about: a change of venue for a seminar, a reminder of a deadline, or to let students know that you have added some new material.

1. Access your course's Control Panel.

Click on Announcements

2. Click on Announcements from the Course Tools area of the Control Panel.

3. Click on Add Announcement to add an announcement.

4. Enter a subject for your announcement. It is best to keep these short and meaningful.

5. Enter the announcement message.

6. Select the options according to your preferences:

Permanent announcement?
Select Yes and the announcement will always appear on the Announcements area in the course.
Select No and the announcement will not always be viewed in this area. Note: Students may view annoucements older than a week by clicking on the relevant tabs.

Choose date restrictions
Select the range of dates in which the announcement will appear. Select dates using the drop-down lists or click on the icon for a calendar interface.
To display an announcement from a date forward, tick and select a date in the Display After area but do not select the Display Until option. To display an announcement for a specific amount of time tick and select a date in the Display After field, check Display Until, and select a date.

7. You can use this option to link to an area of your course, clicking on Browse will open the course map. You may then choose an area and select it. When the announcement is posted students will be able to click on that link to go straight to that area of the course. This can be useful if you wish to highlight a new part of your course and give your students an easy route to access it directly.

8. If you wish, place a tick in the tick box to send the announcement through email to all users within your course.

9. Click on Submit to finish.

10. You will be shown a receipt screen, confirming what you have done.

11. Click on OK and you will be taken back to the announcements page. You can then Modify or Remove existing announcements. To finish click on OK.
