Iridis account application form

The Iridis service is primarily intended as a batch service for researchers or postgraduate research students.  We regret that we do not have the resources to be able to grant access to undergraduates or MSc students who would normally be expected to use the Lyceum service.  If you believe you qualify for an account on Iridis please supply us with the information requested in the form below. The first two sections (User and Project details) are required. You may want to consult your supervisor about details before submitting this form.

Potential users should note that Iridis currently only runs the LINUX operating system and so they will need at least a basic knowledge of UNIX/LINUX (or be willing to acquire this). However, we are experimenting with a Windows component to the cluster and expect to introduce a pilot service a little later.

The documentation for Iridis 3 consists of wiki and user forums hosted by the Computational Modelling Group. If you have not yet registered in this Group, you may consider doing so by following these instructions

Project Details

The research-based focus of our funding requires us to promote an awareness of how the machine is used by research projects. The success of research based on work on Iridis will be crucial to obtaining future funding.  We therefore ask you to provide details of the work you intend to pursue on Iridis

Estimated Project Duration:

Publications

A primary measure of Iridis's success will be the research output that it enables. Please acknowledge Iridis in any future publication which incorporates results obtained using Iridis resources - this includes publications in journals, conference proceedings, presentations and posters. A standard form of acknowledgement will be added to the Iridis web pages soon.

It would be helpful at this stage if you are able to list a few relevant publications which give the background to your project or give links to web pages with such  information.

Application Profile

More than one option can be selected if appropriate (press "Ctrl" when selecting multiple options).

Current Resource Usage

Please give estimates of resource usage for typical jobs on the system you currently use

Estimated Iridis Resource Usage

If you can, please try to estimate what resources you think your jobs will need on Iridis. The information you provide will also help us to understand your requirements and improve the service we offer.

Note: A "node" is an individual machine in the cluster with 8 processors. Memory is local to a node. Most nodes have 22 GB of memory, high memory compute nodes have 46 GB

File Store Use

User filestore is networked and available on all machines on the cluster. Each user is allocated 140 GB of backed-up filestore and 500 GB of temporary storage. If you anticipate that you may need additional filestore, please indicate so in "Additional comments" field below.

I consent to ownership of my filestore passing to my Principal Investigator when I leave the University

In the event of you leaving the University we need to know what should happen to your filestore on Iridis. If you answer "yes" to the question above, then we will consult your supervisor, or head of reseach group, as to what should happen to your filestore. If you answer "no" then you should assume that your filestore will be removed 3 months after your iSolutions account has ceased to be valid, and it is upto you to make your own copy of any data that is still valuable to you before you leave.
