To add a bookmark simply click on the 'Add bookmark' icon, the furthest left of the four icons at the foot of the bookmarks channel (see image on left). Once you have clicked the add bookmark icon you are presented with the "Add New Bookmark" form for the details of the bookmark you want to add (see image on the right). You can choose to make your bookmark a ‘New top level bookmark’, which means that it will always be visible to you regardless of which bookmark folder you are in. Alternatively you can select which folder to put it in by clicking the radio button next to the folder name. If you don't yet have any folders, but want to create some then scroll further down this page to see the 'Adding a bookmarks folder' section. In the example in the adjacent figure we have added the O2 mobile phone company homepage as a top level bookmark.

To delete a bookmark simply click the 'Delete Bookmark' icon, located next to the 'Add Bookmark' icon at the foot of the bookmarks channel. Once you have clicked the 'Delete Bookmark' icon you are presented with the "Delete Bookmarks" form. You can choose which bookmark to delete by ticking the left-hand box next the its name. Once you have selected it click the 'Delete' button and your bookmark will be removed. In the figure on the left we have deleted the O2 homepage from the list.

Managing your bookmarks effectively

You can add as many bookmarks at the top level as you wish, but we would advise you create folders to categorise your bookmarks if you expect to add large numbers. The reason for this is that the more bookmarks you add the bigger the channel becomes and so if you have anything below your bookmarks channel it will gradually be pushed off the bottom of your screen. Your bookmarks appear alphabetically if you create them at the top level but you might find it easier if you categorise your bookmarks - that way you can keep the folders closed until you need to open them, reducing the size of the channel. We have already created two folders for you: 'Personal' and 'Research'. If you don't wish to use these folders, but would rather create your own then see below for details of how to add and delete folders.

To add a bookmarks folder simply click the 'Add Folder' icon, the third icon from the left at the foot of the bookmarks channel. Once you have clicked the 'Add Folder' icon you are presented with the "Add New Folder" form. From here you can choose where to add your new folder. You can add at the top-level, which will mean that you will always be able to see your folder. Or, you could put folders inside other folders as we have in the figure on the right. Here we are inserting a folder called "Organic Chemistry" inside the "Research" folder.

To delete a folder simply click the 'Delete Folder' icon, the right-hand icon at the foot of the bookmarks channel. Once you have clicked this icon you are presented with the "Delete Folders" form. In the example on the left we are deleting the "Organic Chemistry" folder. You can delete more than one folder at a time if you wish. To do this simply check the boxes next to each folder that you wish to delete. Beware: deleting folders will also delete all of the contents of that folder. If you wish to keep the bookmarks you should add them to another folder first.
