Halls of Residence Network Connections Alternatives – Dialup
If there are no network connections available in your particular halls of residence (99% of university managed halls should have Ethernet connections now), or you are not able to use the high speed Ethernet connections, then here are some alternative methods of getting Internet and Network access. See the 'What's Related' link to "Halls of Residence Network Connections Locations" to see the list of halls that should have active Ethernet connections.
NTL Internet service
This service is supported only by NTL. There may be restrictions on versions of Windows supported, access to other ISPs and to some University Web pages. It provides low-speed (56kbps) connections.
For more information and for details on the charges see http://www.ntlatuni.com/ or click on the external web link to NTL's At Uni dialup service.
A modem and cable would be required to plug into the phone socket.
