The University Printing and Copying Service
Double sided printing: In an effort to reduce the amount of paper which the University consumes, all printers in public workstation areas and in the Library will produce double-sided printout by default.
If you wish to print single-sided then please follow these instructions. Please note that you will need to change the settings each time you login if you wish to print single-sided.
The University has moved over to a standard printing and copying service provided by Ricoh. This makes use of a device that combines printing and copying. This is known as a Multi-Functional Device or MFD, but we have described them throughout these pages with the more friendly Printer-copier.
Printer-copiers (MFDs) can be found in the libraries and in most public workstation rooms. They offer the advantage of a single standard device that is easy to use, and combines a number of different features which previously relied on separate machines.
The method of paying for prints and copies has also been standardised and simplified.
On these devices you can:
- Print on A4 or A3
- Print in black and white or colour
- photocopy on A4 or A3
- Photocopy in black and white or colour
- print or copy onto transparencies (black and white or colour, A4 or A3)
- Printing to a single print queue means you can print to any Printer-copier (MFD) if the one nearest you is unavailable
- Pay for prints and copies through a single method, instead of two.
- Pay for prints and copies using notes or credit/debit cards
- Pay for prints and copies online
- visitors and guests can copy
The pages listed in the left hand menu describe all aspects of this service and provide guides and instruction on using it:

Please note that in some public workstations Printer-copiers(MFDs) are not available, and a standard printer with a print release station is featured instead. These printers still use the same payment method, but work in a slightly different way. Please refer to the relevant web pages for Printing on Standard Printers.
