iSolutions to launch a new service on December 9th

On December 9th, iSolutions are preparing to launch a new and exciting service to both staff and students of the University of Southampton. This service will provide an alternative port of call for your ServiceLine needs out of hours when ServiceLine is closed. This service is operated by Northumbria University on behalf of NorMAN, the North-Eastern Metropolitan Area Network Group, and will provide a telephone support service from 18:00 to 08:00 weekdays, 24 hours at weekends and public holidays (including University closure days).

To use this service all you need to do is call the ServiceLine number x25656 or 02380 595656 and press option 1 for out of hours service and your call will be directed through to the NorMAN team for assistance.

All queries are logged in the NorMAN helpline system referencing the student or staff username, making queries traceable and available for ongoing analysis and reporting. They will be able to provide help and advice for some of the common IT issues experienced by our own ServiceLine. These include, University password related queries, connecting to the network on and off campus, pc queries, and general information. If they are unable to resolve your query over the phone then this will be added to the report returned to ServiceLine for assistance on the next working day.

Other participants of this service include Imperial College London, University of Nottingham, Newcastle University, and Leeds Metropolitan University.

We have assumed most of our users will want to have access to this service. Limited details are sent to NorMAN, and would only be accessed should you call the out of hours line. Should you NOT wish to participate please send an e-mail to that effect to
ServiceLine@soton.ac.uk. Should you decide to opt out then you will be unable to receive support from the out-of-hours service.
