Software Services

iSolutions purchases and maintains a Windows software portfolio of over 250 items for staff workstations and over 300 items for student workstations, built to a standard Windows-based University Desktop Environment (UDE). Portfolio details are available on respective staff and student software web pages (see menu entries on the left).

It also supports software purchase for Macintosh and Linux workstations and assists, as appropriate, with software procurements for other platforms used for research.

It delivers a wide range of software for Windows, Macintosh and Linux through the Software Download website. After logging into the site, you are asked to agree terms and conditions of use. After agreement, you are directed to the download site menus, from which you can choose the product you require.

Requests for all other software should be directed to ServiceLine@soton.ac.uk or internal extension 25656. Only members of staff are allowed to order software through the ServiceLine; students who require software should order through their tutor or supervisor.

Please supply as much information as possible when requesting software. For example, include:

  1. user details
  2. authorisation details
  3. purchase details (including School/Department finance code)
  4. brief business case
  5. software item details (company web page, product web page etc)

ServiceLine staff will check details before passing on the request to the Software Services team. Response will be within fixed target level times, unless otherwise negotiated with the user.
