3.       Critically analyse and reflect upon the appropriateness and effectiveness of learning and teaching activities and resources within a session to facilitate quality learning.

4.       Critically analyse and reflect upon the appropriateness of learning outcomes for a session and the alignment of learning and teaching activities with these learning outcomes.

5.       Critically analyse and reflect upon the design of both an assessment to support learning and an assessment to record achievement.

Compulsory Additional Learning Event

All Module 1 PCAP participants should attend at least 1 other learning opportunity to widen their learning during PCAP module 1. This could be a school-based event, University Event (http://www.soton.ac.uk/lateu/professional_development/index.html) or external event and should be applicable to their specific developmental needs. You will need to reserve a place on these courses. Participants are encouraged to complete a reflective log (available from the right of this page) before and after attending their additional learning event in preparation for the PCAP assignments.

Compulsory Peer Observation

ALL PCAP module 1 participants will need to undertake a peer observation during the academic year in which they take PCAP module 1. This is being observed by a peer during a teaching and learning session/activity. The peer could be your PCAP mentor, another PCAP participant, or a colleague in your school. If participants do not have an opportunity to be observed during this time period they should discuss their situation with a PCAP tutor and alternative arrangements can be made.

PCAP Module 1 Tutorials

It is highly recommended that all Module 1 PCAP participants should attend one version of each of the optional tutorials listed below. You will need to reserve a place on these tutorials (you can do so at www.staffbook.soton.ac.uk ). Provisional dates are provided below but may be subject to change.

Tutorial 1 Session Analysis Tutorial

During this small group teaching session participants will be given the opportunity to review and clarify the instructions and assessment criteria for the ‘Reflective Analysis on a teaching session observed by a peer’ module 1 assignment.  Participants will have the opportunity to discuss elements of session design in greater depth with their peers and the tutor and specifically consider issues with regard to their own teaching and subject area. By the end of this session participants should have a good idea of what session they are going to write about in their assignment. It is recommended that participants do not attend this tutorial until after they have attended core sessions 1, 2 and 3.
