Methods for Evaluating and Developing your Teaching
Evaluation of teaching has often been seen as a judgemental activity that the teacher can pass or fail. It has frequently been seen as a tool for assuring teaching quality and ensuring teaching competency. This workshop aims to put the ‘power’ back in the hands of the teacher and help shift the viewpoint from being ‘evaluation is something that is out of my control and done to me’, to one of ‘evaluation is a tool I can use to develop my teaching and focus on the teaching issues which interest me’. After the session participants will be able to:
- Consider the purposes of teaching evaluation
- Identify the people who can evaluate teaching
- Assess a range of evaluation methods and tools
- Practise the art of reflective writing in self evaluation of teaching
- Consider the use of peer dialogue approaches
- Review the ways in which teaching evaluation information can be recorded and used by a teacher
Level 1: for teaching staff and course coordinators.
