Supporting Students with Mental Health Difficulties
The workshop is participative with discussion following a presentation from the tutor. This offers an understanding of the effects of mental health difficulties on students and guidance for staff in dealing with situations where students are exhibiting signs of mental ill health. Guidance includes suggestions for staff in communicating with students with mental health difficulties and an outline of fitness to study procedures. After the session, participants should have an increased:
- Understanding of mental health conditions and the effects on the student
- Ability to communicate effectively with students with mental health difficulties
- Awareness of sources of support and advice for staff when dealing with student cases
- Understanding of fitness to study procedures
- Awareness of sources of support for students with mental health difficulties
Level 2: for teaching staff, personal tutors and supervisors of undergraduate or postgraduate students.
