Voice and Pronunciation for Non–English Speakers

We will look at the differences and similarities between your natural accent and that of Standard English. The intention is not to change your accent dramatically but enable you to be easily understood by native English speakers.

The aim of this course is to enable you to incorporate Standard English pronunciation into your everyday speech, building clarity where necessary while maintaining positive aspects of your natural accent. Participants will:

  • Look at how and why we sound the way we do
  • Understand the similarities and differences of Standard English and other accents
  • Work on rhythm, inflection and vowel pronunciation
  • Practise Standard English vowel sounds
  • Take part in exercises for relaxation, breathing and resonance placement
  • Work with phonetic symbols and sounds

Level 1: for international teaching staff if English is not your first language.
