Mr John Dunt is Visiting Fellow within Southampton Law School at the University of Southampton.

John Dunt is a Visiting Fellow at the Institute of Maritime Law and a Consultant with the international law firm Clyde & Co LLP. He qualified as a solicitor in 1972 and joined Clyde & Co in 1975. He was a partner from 1977 to 2007 specialising in marine insurance, with particular reference to cargo insurance.

John was ex-officio legal advisor to the Joint Cargo Committee from December 1999 to April 2007 and was involved in drafting the wordings used in marine cargo insurance policies worldwide to control terrorism risks. He was also a member of the Joint Cargo Committee Working Party responsible for updating and revising the Institute Cargo Clauses 2009. He currently sits with the Lloyd's Market Association Steering Group overseeing the revisions to the Institute Trade and Commodity Clauses.

John Dunt’s book, 'Marine Cargo Insurance', published August 2009, is part of the Lloyd’s Shipping Law Library (Informa). His other publications include the chapter on Double Insurance in Mance, Goldrein, Merkin (eds) "Insurance Disputes" Informa (2003, 2nd edition) and the chapter on the revised Institute Cargo Clauses 2009 (with William Melbourne) published in volume 3 of 'The Modern Law of Marine Insurance' (Rhidian Thomas, ed) Informa. John is now engaged in writing, with the assistance of contributors worldwide, 'International Cargo Insurance' to be published in 2011 by Lloyds List Law (Informa) in the Lloyd's Shipping Law Library as a companion volume to 'Marine Cargo Insurance'.
