Southampton Law School offers much more than the academic course itself and helps to prepare its students for a career beyond the degree. Within the Law School, I have gained practical work experience by getting involved with pro bono work at the Housing Clinic and Street Law programme. I have also been Treasurer of the Inns of Court Society and attended several Inns dinners, giving me the opportunity to network with barristers. It was, therefore, a highlight and an honour to receive the Contribution to the Law School Award in 2014.

Southampton Law School recognises your hard work and, more than anything, gives you the experience to progress in any career you choose.

An exciting aspect of the degree, which really drew me to Southampton, was the chance to go on an exchange year abroad. I was selected to spend my third year to study at the National University of Singapore and received a Santander scholarship to represent Southampton. I also had the fantastic opportunity to travel around South-East Asia. Not only did I have the chance to study modules of my own choice at a master’s level, I also got to spend a year in the sun, meeting people from all over the world, and experiencing new cultures and foods.

I have really enjoyed the dance and sports culture here at Southampton, as well as the ease of meeting people and making friends across the university’s faculties. Southampton University offers a great variety of societies to get involved in and all societies welcome beginners with open arms. This year, I joined the salsa society, and had a lot of fun performing Cuban salsa in the university’s annual dance show, Pure Dance.

The law society organises various skills workshops, networking events and socials, including the Christmas ball and the summer boat party, which I am really looking forward to. The Southampton Law School recognises your hard work and, more than anything, gives you the experience to progress in any career you choose.
