A French film crew has visited the Law School to interview members of the Institute of Maritime Law for a 90 minute programme to be broadcast in Europe on the theme of globalisation and the economy of the sea.

Producers Michel Koutouzis and Baudouin Koenig interviewed Professor Mikis Tsimplis, Professor Paul Todd, Dr Alexander Ntovas and Johanna Hjalmarsson on camera. They also recorded a guest lecture by shipping solicitor and arbitrator Ben Leach to an audience of law students.

"Our programme will include interviews with shipowners filmed at the major Greek port of Piraeus as well as the Suez Canal and at ports in the Black Sea," he says. "But we also wanted to cover the academic research underway in maritime law at Southampton's world-famous Institute of Maritime Law with students from around the world. We have also carried out interviews at Lloyds Register, which is moving from London to Southampton, and with UK coastguards."

Informa Senior Research Fellow in Maritime and Commercial Law, Johanna Hjalmarsson says: "It was interesting and exciting to be involved in the making of a documentary - it is something that does not happen every day. The students who attended the guest lecture will be able to look out for themselves in the finished product which we are told will be broadcast around the end of the year."
