Southampton Law School Open Days

On Friday 4th July, the Law School welcomed prospective new students and their guests on campus for the first of our July Open Days, with a few surprising additions!

Visitors to the Law School may have been surprised to see some unusual additions to Building 4, including a dirty, flood damaged sofa, a graffiti wall, posters of birthday cakes and naked people, the outline of a dead body, students chanting and carrying placards, and a smashed TV.

These new additions are part of a new initiative by the Law School to educate the undergraduate audience about the breadth of research that is undertaken here at Southampton, and to bring the subject of law to life.

Law touches all of our lives, and the debate concerning our legal rights and the intricacies of the law are never straightforward.

The Open Day activity has been designed to enlighten people to the grey areas of the law, to educate them on the wide range of case studies law students can expect to study at Southampton, and challenge assumptions about studying Law.

As the Open Day has shown, studying Law at Southampton is certainly varied.  The installations also encourage visitors to interact with the school and to share their views on the controversial questions raised.

If you're on campus today, come and visit Building 4 and the surrounding areas to write on the graffiti wall, or to visit our social media channels to continue the debate using #lawdebate.

Some visitors had a strong feeling that street art belongs to the wall owner. Tweet us your thoughts #lawdebate
