Law School lecturers win Excellence in Teaching Awards

The annual award ceremony gives students the opportunity to recognise the support of the staff that teach them and show how that teaching has had a real impact on their academic experience.

Professor Alastair Hudson won Most Outstanding Lecturer at the University. Alastair is no stranger to winning awards for teaching. He is a National Teaching Fellow (a cross-disciplinary award given by the Higher Education Academy for excellence in teaching) and has been voted UK Law Teacher of the Year.

About the Southampton ETA's, he said: "Winning the ‘University of Southampton Most Outstanding Lecturer 2014’ is hugely encouraging. Being nominated by the students I teach makes it all seem worthwhile."

Lecturer Mark Telford won the most Innovative Teaching category at the awards hosted by Southampton University Students' Union (SUSU).

Mark, a Lecturer in Criminal Law and Youth Justice, was nominated by students across the year groups for countless examples of innovative teaching, particularly in his use of social media.

It is the second year running that Mark has scooped an award. Last year he was Business and Law’s winner in the Best Feedback Category.

Mark said: "I was really pleased to receive this award. A positive and collaborative relationship between staff and students in the University community is crucial and these awards are important in both reflecting on and contributing to that. The award for innovation means a lot as it has come from the students. It is good to know that they appreciate when I try things and forgive me when such things do not always work."
