Top prize for first year law student
First year Law student Emily Moore has won the Ngoh Prize for Best Performance in Constitutional and Administrative Law for achieving the highest mark in this first year module. “It was a very interesting module and very relevant to many current world issues we see on the news,” she explains. The prize was donated by Law alumnus, Nicholas Ngoh LLB, who presented it to her at Law Graduation 2015.
Emily has enjoyed the first year of her legal studies at the Southampton Law School. A particular highlight was the compulsory ‘moot’ when all students prepare legal arguments in teams and present them in a courtroom setting in front of an experienced professional lawyer or judge. “When we went into the room, I saw we had to argue our cases in front of a Court of Appeal judge,” she recalls. “I was so nervous my hands were shaking but we rose to the challenge and got a good mark.”
She was inspired to study law after taking an A level in the subject, she also took a holiday job in a local firm of solicitors in West Sussex which specialised in family law, probate and conveyancing.
Outside the seminar room, Emily is a member of the Law netball and athletics teams. She is a keen runner and takes part in 5k and 10k races as well as the Saturday parkruns on Southampton Common.
