On Thursday June 16th, the Law School is hosting a Company Law Roundtable on Shareholder Power to be led by Professor Brenda Hannigan.

The event brings together a dozen invited experts on company law from across the country, from the Universities of Durham, Sheffield, Leeds, Glasgow, Oxford, Cambridge, LSE, UCL, KCL and Bristol. Topics to be covered include UK and US perspectives on the concept of shareholder primacy, ‘say on pay’ and the growth in stewardship given increasing pressure on investors to be responsible owners.

Prof Hannigan commenting on these themes, noted that the issues being addressed not only raise significant legal questions of duties and liabilities, but these are issues which have implications for the day-to-day conduct of business on the British High Street, as recent events at BHS demonstrate.
