Southampton Law School bids fond farewell to Professor Natalie Lee

On Thursday, 29th September 2016, Southampton Law School held a retirement celebration for Emeritus Professor, Natalie Lee.

Professor Lee has been an academic in the Law School for 40 years including 5 years as Head of the School. Professor Lee has been associated with the University for several more years, as she graduated from the University of Southampton with an LLB in 1973.

During the course of the evening, several people delivered speeches recalling their experiences of working with Natalie. Professor Sarah Nield talked of Natalie’s ability to inspire everyone around her and her passion for working with her students. Sir Malcolm Grant, Chairman of NHS England, who was one of Natalie’s lecturers when she was a student, and Professor Rosa Greaves, a long-time friend and former colleague, described a cheerful, helpful and professional colleague and friend. The speeches were concluded with a warm and affectionate tribute from Professor Yvonne Baatz who also presented Natalie with gifts and flowers.

The many colleagues, friends and Alumni who attended the reception also talked about the way she supported her students, and was always available to help them in times of difficulty. They also commented on how she was always organised and prepared and her ability to get the best out of everyone she worked with.

Professor Lee has left a legacy of positivity and all her friends and colleagues at Southampton Law School in the wider global legal and business professions wish her a fulfilling and impactful retirement that represents her professional life.
