A group of 25 students from the University’s Law Society visited the European Parliament in Brussels on a trip sponsored by Green MEP, Keith Taylor.

The trip included an information briefing on the role of the European Parliament and its inner functioning with a member of staff from the European Parliament. The students then had an hour discussion with Keith Taylor MEP. Keith spoke about the life of an MEP, and the policies that he has been driving forward in parliament, such as transport, LGBT rights within the EU and animal rights.

Speaking after the visit, Keith said:

It’s always so great to meet such enthusiastic and intelligent students; their questions never fail to keep me on my toes.

Reflecting on the society’s visit, Emily Balment, Vice President of the Southampton Law Society, said:

“Meeting Keith Taylor MEP was a particular highlight, as he explained to us the recent work he had been involved with, including increasing LGBT rights, animal welfare rights and increasing accessible transport for all across the European Union.

“Moreover, I found learning about how the EU operates, including the main parties that the MEPs align with, and the way the debates are managed in the Parliament, especially interesting. Brussels itself was a beautiful city, and overall the Southampton Law Society had an outstanding visit to Belgium and the European Parliament.
